Gujarat Titans recorded their second straight win of the season by beating Delhi Capitals on Saturday. The team led by Hardik Pandya successfully defended a goal of 172 points, thanks to the brilliant bowling performances of Lockie Ferguson (4/28), Mohammed Shami (2/30) and the captain himself (1/22) , among others. The Titans are currently third in the IPL 2022 table; still lose a game.

Fly-half Shubman Gill was immense for the Titans as they slammed 84 from just 46 deliveries, guiding the team to a solid 171/6 in 20 overs. New Zealander Ferguson then rolled through the Delhi Capitals batting lineup after Pandya had the first breakout, sending Tim Seifert off early in the innings.

Ferguson grabbed key wickets from Prithvi Shaw (10), Mandeep Singh (18), Rishabh Pant (43) and Axar Patel (8) as the Capitals never recovered from the layoffs. He was also named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance and during the post-match presentation he praised captain Hardik Pandya for trusting him.

“(It was) one of those nights and with the kind of bowling partners I have it makes it really easy for me. It’s great (to have a strong bowling unit) and helps spread calm in the group. The pressure was coming from both ends with the ball and it worked for us. I think it’s (very fast bowling) more a matter of instinct,” Ferguson said during a post-game presentation.

“There was a lot of bounce in the box and I was looking to hit that difficult length. Some bought in and it worked for me with the wicket from Rishabh. It was a good overall performance from the bowlers. Hardik always gives us confidence play the game we want to play and it’s good to have a captain who trusts your skills,” he added.

The Titans have a four-day break before returning to action on April 8 against the Punjab Kings.
